Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for elevating your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating some eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to combat depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you are starving! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know that green tea helps you to raise your moods too!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Go with these hints instead!
