Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must keep away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Eat some eggs to jolly up!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.
Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to raise your moods as well!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
