The ingredients needed to make Delicious Tamarind Shrimp Soup:
  1. Prepare 1 lb raw, peeled and deveined shrimp
  2. Take 1 packages of bean thread or rice noodles, follow cooking instructions on package
  3. Prepare 3/4 packages tamarind powder, paste works too
  4. Make ready 1 large tomato, diced
  5. Prepare 3 clove of garlic, finely chopped
  6. Get 1 bundle of fresh cilantro, roughly chopped
  7. Get 5 green onions, chopped, both white and green parts
  8. Make ready 1 fresh lime, sliced
  9. Prepare 1 fresh jalapeno, deseeded and sliced
  10. Prepare 3 tbsp stir fry sauce to marinade shrimp
  11. Make ready 1 salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste
  12. Make ready 1 olive oil to cook shrimp
  13. Prepare 1 bunch of bean fresh sprouts (optional)
  14. Make ready 1 sprinkle finished soup with sesame seeds

Instead of using real tamarind use packets of tamarind seasoning mix. Get started at step number one below. Add tamarind paste, sugar, salt, and pepper to the pot. Cook on medium-high heat until slightly thickened.

Instructions to make Delicious Tamarind Shrimp Soup:
  1. In a bowl, add cleaned shrimp, diced tomato, chopped garlic, tbs. olive oil, stir fry sauce and seasonings
  2. In a pot, add 5 or so cups of water, tamarind powder, a squeeze of sriracha chili sauce(optional), add a tsp. of salt and place over low heat
  3. Be sure to taste broth, make sure it's not watery, and has a good tamarind flavour
  4. Cook noodles according to package, they should be springy and have a slight chew to them, rinse with cool water and set aside.
  5. In a pan, cook the shrimp mixture over medium heat. The tomatoes will break down and make the mixture watery, you want this to happen, it will become part of the broth. Cook until shrimp are done about 5 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, add your noodles. Then add your shrimp with some of the tomato juice. Pour the tamarind broth about half way up the bowl. Top with the fresh cilantro, jalapeno, green onions, bean sprouts and lime.

Add tamarind paste, sugar, salt, and pepper to the pot. Cook on medium-high heat until slightly thickened. Add the sautéed shrimps and stir carefully so that the shrimps cooked through and coated with the sauce. This delicious Filipino cuisine inspired soup is delicious and nutritious.
