Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood
Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating a few eggs to jolly up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be better. Now you are aware that it can help raise your mood also!
So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these instead!
