Foods That Can Make You Happy

A lot of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we ought to keep away from them. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very nutritious and good for you. Several foods actually do improve your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein source.

If you want to overcome depression, try eating some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.

Grains can be wonderful for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really great for your mood. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You already knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
